Puppy and Kitten Vaccinations
Puppy Vaccinations

Vaccinations for puppies typically begin at around 6 to 8 weeks of age. The initial series of vaccinations helps boost their immune system and safeguard them against diseases like Distemper, Parvovirus, and Canine Hepatitis. Regular booster shots are then given to maintain their immunity throughout their young lives.
Kitten Vaccinations
Kittens are delicate little beings, and early vaccinations are vital in giving them a healthy start in life. The initial kitten vaccinations are typically administered around 8 to 9 weeks of age. These vaccinations protect them from diseases like Feline Herpesvirus, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia. Regular booster shots are given to maintain their immunity and keep them healthy throughout their adult lives.

What Diseases Are Dogs Vaccinated Against?
DOG DISEASES
Distemper
Distemper causes severe fever, respiratory symptoms (coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge, pneumonia), eye discharge, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, listlessness and dehydration. Nervous signs such as muscle tremors, convulsions, loss of balance and progressive paralysis can occur later in the course of the disease. The recovery rate is low.
Hepatitis
Infection with this virus can result in sudden death. Other patients suffer high fever, loss of appetite, pain, blue eye (cloudiness of the cornea) and jaundice.
Parvovirus
Parvovirus causes severe diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, loss of appetite, and extreme depression. It is often accompanied by rapid dehydration, bleeding from the bowel and collapse.
Canine (Kennel) Cough
This disease is characterised by a harsh, nonproductive cough that may persist for up to three weeks. In young, elderly or immunocompromised dogs it can predispose to a potentially fatal secondary pneumonia. Severe forms of canine cough are either caused by a virus (Parainfluenza) or less commonly a bacteria (Bordetella).
What Diseases Are Cats Vaccinated Against?
CAT DISEASES
Feline Enteritis
This disease causes severe fever, depression, loss of appetite, rapid weight loss, dehydration, vomiting or diarrhoea. It is usually fatal.
Cat Flu
Cat flu is a highly infectious disease in kittens that is very debilitating. We recommend vaccination against two cat flu viruses - Feline Herpes and Calicivirus. Symptoms include sneezing, nasal discharge, eye discharge, conjunctivitis, mouth ulcers and fever. Cases vary in severity. Some cats will show only mild signs and seem otherwise normal. However, some cats are more severely affected and are lethargic, lose their appetite and become dehydrated. Kittens infected with Feline Herpesvirus become lifelong carriers of the virus and may develop symptoms and be contagious on and off throughout their lives. Humans (and other species like dogs) are not affected by this virus.
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
FIV belongs to a group of viruses that include Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Although HIV and FIV belong to the same family of viruses, it is not possible for FIV to be transmitted from an infected cat to humans. FIV is transmitted through fighting and bite wounds and, after an initial short illness, cats may remain healthy for several years. Ultimately the virus damages the immune system and infections or cancers may develop in FIV-positive patients. FIV vaccination is not 100% protective. The best protection is to make sure your cat leads a lifestyle that avoids contact with unknown or stray cats, in practical terms, this means living indoors. Accepting that this is not always possible, we recommend FIV vaccination for any cat that is allowed outside.
